The documents below provide useful information for facilitating group projects.

Facilitating Collaboration Overview provides a variety of research articles on facilitating and assessing group work. This document was handed out at the orientation session.

Five Stages of Group Development describes the five phases groups progress through during a collaborative effort (Forming, Storming, Norming, Performing, and Adjourning). Sarah Miller mentioned this document at one of the evaluation sessions and suggests sharing these phases with your students so they know what to expect in the group process.

Assessing Group Effectiveness is a form for students to complete as a way to monitor group progress. This form can be used as a group processing tool or can be modified to be used at the end of a project as a way for an instructor to gather input from the students on how the group functioned.

Constructive and Destructive Group Behaviors describes different types of constructive and destructive group behaviors. Sarah Miller and Janet Batzli mentioned this document at an evaluation session and suggest having an open conversation with students about these behaviors to help students focus on their constructive behaviors and be aware of their destructive behaviors.

Group Processing form is a form for students to fill out to evaluate the team's progress toward effective group functioning. This form is meant to provide formative feedback to the students and provide time for them to reflect on how their team is working together.

Team Policies and Expectations Agreement includes an instructor created list of expectations and policies for group work and a form where students create their own team policies and expectation agreement. Student groups work together to create their own agreement which provides students with clear communication of what is expected of them and what they can expect from their group.

The documents below sample rubrics and peer assessment forms for group projects.

Group work rubric is an example STEM group work rubric that can be used to have group members assess each other.

Peer Assessment Form is another form that can be used to have students evaluate each other. The faculty mentors suggest using these throughout the project as a way to provide formative feedback to students on how well they are working in their group.

Peer Rate Team Members form is another sample of a peer assessment form.

Team Member Evaluation form is yet another sample of a peer assessment form.

Group Effort Analysis Rubric is the rubric that Janet Batzli (a faculty mentor) uses in the Biocore program to have students evaluate themselves and their peer's work as part of a collaborative team. This rubric helps guide students on what a "5" means relative to a "0" and what behaviors are unacceptable, satisfactory, and exemplary.

Group Analysis Form 302, Group Analysis Form 333 are the forms students complete to evaluate themselves and their peer's work as part of a collaborative team. The Group Analysis forms are used in conjunction with the Group Effort Analysis rubric.
