Foreign language instructors are always looking for ways to extend their reach beyond the classroom in order to provide students with meaningful, communicative pursuits in the target language. The Virtual French House concept was designed to provide the infrastructure for expanded francophone interactions between students with the added participation of instructors and foreign guests. This preliminary model was also intended to offer expanded role playing opportunities because in Second Life, users are encouraged to develop well defined identities both in terms of appearance and preferences.
