Imagine walking around a virtual ice cream plant, walking through each part of the plant and not only observing what happens in the plant, but interacting with the process-flow, the equipment and the safety elements that go along with a manufacturing environment. Using a simulation/game to show students how UW Madison's Babcock ice cream plant operates gives learners a perspective of what goes on in day-to-day operations. The essential idea is to use gaming practices to create a virtual space to allow students to better understand the flow of how raw materials are turned into a finished ice cream product. Additionally the learner will gain perspective of the principles of sanitation and good manufacturing processes.
